Going abroad with my child

Contact the central authority in the country you are resident in. Be aware that it is necessary to complete a power of attorney by which you allow the central authority to act on your behalf or to designate a representative to represent you.

It is mandatory to then complete a form with personal information and provide any other useful details/data. The central authority of your country will forward your file to the Polish central authority and ask the latter to search for or confirm the presence of the child in order to avoid any exposure to danger.

 

Central authorities will initiate an amicable procedure and mediation, with the assistance of a lawyer/mediator specializing in international family law cases.

 

NB: In Canada each provincial and territorial government also has its own central authority, in addition to the federal authority.

The purpose of this Convention is: (a) to secure the prompt return of children wrongfully removed or retained in any signatory state (b) effectively enforce in the other signatory states the rights of custody and visitation existing state who are signatories to the Convention.
