Standards for the exercise of jurisdiction over child custody cases:

 

 The Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA) regulates who holds jurisdiction in cases concerning child custody where a child has lived with a parent for an unbroken six month period prior to court proceedings.

The purpose of this Convention is: (a) to secure the prompt return of children wrongfully removed or retained in any signatory state (b) effectively enforce in the other signatory states the rights of custody and visitation existing state who are signatories to the Convention.
